“Dear John?” That Channing Tatum Movie?

No.

“Dear John?” That 1988 Judd Hirsch TV show?

No.

Would you like me to keep guessing?

No.

“Dear John” is a comedy web series where comedians Brendan Sargent and Joel Marsh rate and review bathrooms. It’s like MTV Cribs, but for bathrooms only! And each episode is only as long as it would take the average person to use the bathroom.

We enter a bathroom. We talk about everything from cleanliness, decor, and amenities, all the way down to the hidden and often haunting details, like in episode 10 when Joel makes a shocking discovery.

At the end of each 4-minute episode, the bathroom is given a final rating based on the five main categories (Amenities, Cleanliness, Decor, Light, and Intangibles). After that, you’re good to wipe and flush! But make sure you stick around for our Marvel®-esque post-credit sequences.

Brendan

Brendan is originally from Worcester, Massachusetts, where the bathroom in his childhood home was always heavily beach-themed despite living over an hour from the nearest ocean. Brendan is a writer, actor, and comedian whose most recent short film “Toother” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (“You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman). Brendan developed the idea for “Dear John” while doing a number two in the bathroom inside the Sydney Opera House.

Joel

Joel has been going to the bathroom his whole life. Often he has been told by his friends and loved ones that he uses the bathroom “too much,” but in his mind that makes him more qualified to host this show. Professionally, he lives a double life: on one side he has been a part of multiple improv teams and performed stand-up comedy; on the other he is a cinematographer and director, working on shows like “Chef’s Table” and “#blackexcellence” as well as directing award-winning shorts and music videos.

Season 2

Season 1 featured 10 episodes of Brendan and Joel visiting the bathrooms of their friends.

Season 2 will be different, but only slightly. This brings us to YOU.

As bathroom enthusiasts, we’ve already been giving free promotion to countless products that improve your bathroom-going experience. We would love to partner with your brand for our second season (and beyond!).

Season 1 was made for a grand total of $0.00, so in terms of a proof of concept that we can do a lot with a little, we think we’ve made our point. For Season 2, we envision a few improvements that will ameliorate the quality and reach of the show, while still keeping the budget extremely minimal.

Season 2 will feature celebrity guests joining our heroes in the bathrooms!

Joel, Brendan, and let’s say…I don’t know, Jon Hamm, for example…will spend a few minutes chatting with the homeowners before entering their bathrooms and doing their thing. The rating and riffing that takes place will be a mystery to the homeowners until the episode airs, so Brendan, Joel, and Jonny H can really pull out all the stops and say whatever they want.

We already have a few guests from our personal network that we’re asking to be on the show (examples of whom are Rashida Jones, Martin Starr, and the aforementioned Jonny H), and moving forward the potential popularity of the show could turn it into a promotion tool for celebrities making it mutually advantageous for us and your brand.

The success of “Hot Ones” on YouTube is the perfect example of the trajectory for “Dear John,” and our show will be shorter and funnier, while still giving ample branding partnership opportunities and seamless integration of product placement. The celebrities will help bring the show exposure to a vast number of new viewers and thus, eyes on your brand.

New locations, new bathrooms!

Building on Season 1, we’re setting up bigger and better bathrooms, including some public bathroom locations (like an actual restaurant called Dear John’s where we already have permission to shoot). This give you an opportunity to get your brand in the hands of new people and on the cisterns of new toilets.

Improved production value!

We want to keep all the charm of Season 1 while improving only aspects that will invisibly elevate the experience of watching the show.

Namely? Sound. The first season’s sound was recorded on an iPhone, and while most of the sound in the show is passable, this season we would like to hire a sound person so that all of our poop and pee jokes can be as clearly heard as if they were the silky tones of a radio disc jockey.

We would also like to add a second camera to catch all the things the first camera missed in season 1.

Bottom Line.

We’re asking for only $10,000 from your brand, and for that you will get both up-front branding at the start of the episode, product placement in the bathroom, and we will give your product as a gift to the bathroom owner at the end of the episode.

What you’re getting is a web series with the potential to reach millions of viewers for only a fraction of the price of a traditional commercial or branded content. We can deliver high quality content at a tiny price because of our passionate team and the love we have for bathrooms.
